On February 8, 2012, Lerro Productions teamed up with Ron Burkhard to put on a photo charter at the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. With the charter date set right in the middle of the two weekends that Nevada Northern was operating their own sponsored photo charters, it made for a great opportunity for people to make a week trip to the desert for railroad photography.
As with most of the Sierras, the Virginia Range in Nevada was experiencing near record low snowfall in 2012. Where we should have had an average of a foot of snow on the ground, there was only a coating in the shadows. However, we made the best of a warm sunny day and captured some great pictures. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad has given us an open invitation to come back and run another charter in the near future. There is also talk of the railroad acquiring and fixing up freight equipment in order to run a photo freight train. More info to come!
