I always considered the “railroad” as a world unto itself. A collection of sights and sounds that’s unlike anything else. It has captured my imagination since I was child. When I work on a painting, I’m creating a scene that has been influenced by countless hours of trackside viewing.

Most people considered railroads and local transit as part of everyday life, but not me. Whether I was sitting trackside or riding the local trains, trolleys, and subways throughout the Philadelphia region, I would always take in the sounds, the smells and excitement of it all.

That’s the excitement I try to capture on all my paintings. Even when the art is commissioned, the client usually has the same enthusiasm for trains, so it easy to collaborate and work up an image that captures concept.
